Marc Mackenzie, Attorney

I became an estate planning attorney because I want to help families. The legal system can be confusing and intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. I speak in plain English and truly want you to understand your options and help you make wise decisions. With good planning, not only can future headache and expense be avoided, but you can leave a legacy for your family, taking care of them even after you are gone.

I take pride in providing each of my clients with one-on-one counseling, responsive, clear communication, and excellent service. I work closely with you to make sure your goals are realized. Estate planning is a lifelong process, and I strive to build relationships that last long after we first meet.


Marc Mackenzie received his J.D. with honors from The George Washington University Law School. During law school, he was a member of The George Washington Law Review and served as a Dean’s Fellow. He earned his B.A. from University of California Santa Cruz. Prior to founding Acorn Law, he worked as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of the international law firm Hogan Lovells.

Marc is a member of the Ventura County Bar Association, ProVisors, ElderCounsel, and WealthCounsel.

Marc is an Eagle Scout and is active in his community. He lives in Simi Valley with his wife Emily and daughter Lucy, along with their two Saint Bernards Barkley and Benson.

Gina Ahn, Attorney, Of Counsel

I am secretly a social worker dressed up with attorney credentials.  My past history as a former Americorp Volunteer, 7th grade LAUSD English teacher, Social Security claims representative, and most recently the past seven years as in-house counsel and program officer for two private operating foundations has uniquely prepared me to navigate respectfully through family dynamics, wade through mysterious tax regulations, and deal with government bureaucrats to advocate for my client’s best interest.  I especially enjoy working with seniors and their families because of the satisfaction that comes from offering them the peace of mind that comes from knowing options and creating plans tailor-made for their unique situation.  Medi-Cal benefits, Long Term Care Insurance, Incapacity Planning, Irrevocable Trusts, VA benefits … these are just the tools of my trade.  The important thing I offer is sound advice and counseling for which tool to use when. Anyone can whack a hammer, the key point is knowing where, when, and how to place the nail!


Gina Ahn received her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School. During law school, she was awarded a deans award for International Business Transactions and received two grants as a Kauffman Social Entrepreneur & as a Notre Dame Asian Language Studies grantee. She earned her B.A. with honors from Wheaton College, in Wheaton, IL.

Gina is currently serving as an officer of The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) Southern California Chapter and a member of ElderCounsel and WealthCounsel. She is conversationally fluent in Korean.

Debra Castillo, Client Services Coordinator

I am the first person you will interact with when contacting our firm, and am your primary point of contact as you work with us. My job is to make sure every single client has an outstanding experience, from the first phone call all the way through to signing your estate plan. I really enjoy getting to know each and every one of our clients, and work hard to make sure your needs are met throughout the planning process.


Debra has had a long career in the legal, accounting and real estate fields. She holds a paralegal certificate from Catherine Business College and studied business and accounting at Moorpark College. Throughout her career she has focused on excellent client service and clear communication, and her calm and friendly personality allows clients to feel comfortable during what may be a difficult time. From workshop planning, to trust funding, to scheduling, to finalizing legal documents, Debra’s experience and enthusiasm ensures each and every client has a wonderful experience.
